Content creator Thour has drawn attention to a performance issue in Counter-Strike 2, specifically related to noticeable FPS drops when pulling out or inspecting weapons. In a detailed post on X, he shared test results showing significant frame rate decreases — even with the lowest possible video settings.
The Numbers: FPS Drops Up to 17%
At 1920×1080 resolution with all settings on low, Thour recorded the following:
- Knife out — 308 FPS
- AK-47 out — 285 FPS (7.5% drop)
- Inspecting AK-47 — 255 FPS (17% drop)

FPS instantly jumps back to 308 after switching back to the knife. A similar pattern was observed at the classic 4:3 resolution (1280×960), where FPS dropped from 360 to 301 (16% drop) when switching from knife to AK.
With the M4A4 (no stickers), the drop was smaller:
- Knife — 363 FPS
- M4A4 out — 340 FPS (6% drop)
- Inspecting M4A4 — no FPS drop

Test System Specifications
Thour ran the tests on a mid-range PC setup:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
- RAM: 16 GB DDR4
- OS: Windows 10
Thour commented: “I would definitely need someone with a better PC to test this out,” suggesting the issue could stem from both hardware limitations and the game itself.
Should Players Be Concerned?
While the FPS drop isn’t game-breaking, it can affect the fluidity and feel of gameplay — particularly during weapon switches or gunfights, where every frame counts.
Valve has not yet addressed this issue publicly, but the community has taken notice. Players are now hoping for performance optimizations in future updates to address this subtle but frustrating problem.
