From May 7–18, 2026, the world’s best teams will gather once again in Astana, Kazakhstan. This venue proved its readiness for top-tier esports events in 2025, when it hosted the playoffs of the official Major.
The Barys Arena, a modern multi-purpose venue, returns as the home of the playoffs. With strong infrastructure, great capacity, and an electric crowd, the arena was a hit with fans and players alike — making it a logical choice to return as the centerpiece for 2026.
Prize Pool: $1,600,000 — A New Record for a Non-Major CS2 Event
PGL has confirmed that the prize pool for the 2026 edition has been increased to $1,600,000, which is $350,000 more than the previous Astana event in 2025. This places PGL Astana 2026 in the same category as ESL Pro Tour Championships, BLAST Premier Finals, or IEM Katowice.
Several factors contributed to this decision:
- The growing popularity of CS2 following the Copenhagen Major 2025;
- A strategic push to support emerging regions like Central Asia;
- A desire to compete with other TOs for top-tier event status.
Prize Distribution
For Players:
- 1st place — $256,000
- 2nd place — $120,000
- 3rd place — $96,000
- 4th place — $56,000
- 5–8th — $40,000

- 15–16th — $8,000
For Clubs (Club Reward):
An identical breakdown — another $800,000 distributed among the same placements.
In total, the winner will walk away with $512,000, making the tournament financially comparable even to official Majors.
Format and Invitations: Global VRS at the Core
PGL Astana 2026 is not part of Valve’s official Major cycle, but it will still use the Global VRS (Valve Ranking System) for invitations and seeding:
- 12 teams will be invited based on the Global VRS as of March 2, 2026;
- 4 teams will qualify through open and closed online qualifiers (Europe, Americas, Asia);
- The seeding for the main event will be based on VRS rankings from April 6, 2026.
This ensures a merit-based and transparent process — rewarding consistent performances throughout the season.
What Makes PGL Astana 2026 Stand Out?
- Elite Lineups: Organizers confirmed that the top teams of the season will be present — expect the likes of Vitality, Team Spirit, FaZe, NAVI, The MongolZ, FURIA, G2, Heroic, Falcons, and more.
- A Mature CS2 Meta: By mid-2026, the game will have settled after the big patches of 2025, promising a deeper and more strategic version of Counter-Strike.
- A Regional Fan Boom: Fans from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan brought unmatched energy last year — and that momentum is only growing.
- PGL Standards: World-class broadcast, production, and stage quality are expected — PGL’s legacy speaks for itself.
Tickets Coming Soon
Organizers confirmed that ticket sales will go live in July. Given last year’s rapid sellout, fans are advised to stay alert — premium categories may disappear within hours.
PGL Astana 2026 may not be a Major, but it’s far from “just another tournament.” It’s a seasonal showcase, a battleground for the best, and a crucial opportunity for Central Asia to secure its place on CS2’s world stage.
With an expanded prize pool, a clear and merit-based invite system, growing fan demand, and PGL’s organizational prowess, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest events of the year — and one no team or viewer should miss.
