GamerLegion has officially announced the contract extension of head coach Ashley “ashhh” Battye, who has been leading the team since August 2020. This decision highlights the organization’s trust in the British specialist, who has transformed GamerLegion into a serious contender on the international stage over the past five years.

From Academies to Majors: How ashhh Keeps GamerLegion Competitive

Ashley “ashhh” Battye hasn’t just kept GamerLegion afloat — he has consistently built competitive rosters almost from scratch. Starting with a mix of Tier-2 players, a veteran who many thought was past his prime, and a little-known IGL from an academy team, he guided GamerLegion to several impressive achievements:

  • BLAST.tv Rio Major 2022 — nearly reached the playoffs;
  • BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 — defeated top teams (including Heroic), reached the final, and lost only to Vitality;
  • After roster departures — quickly assembled a new lineup with young talents and Snax;
  • Copenhagen Major 2024 — once again qualified for the Major;
  • LAN events in 2025 — reached quarterfinals at tournaments in Bucharest and Melbourne;
  • IEM Katowice 2025 — narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

One of the brightest moments was the team’s performance at the RMR for the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: after two initial losses, they won four matches in a row to secure a spot at the Major. Battye described this run as the greatest achievement of his coaching career. In an interview with HLTV after qualifying for a fourth consecutive Major, Battye stated:

“I think this is the biggest achievement I’ve had in my career. We had so little time with the team, we faced a lot of challenges, and just getting it all together was very hard.”

ashhh’s Reaction

The team’s reaction was warm: celebrating the contract extension with applause, emphasizing the unity within the squad. Battye shared his excitement about the future, highlighting the team’s progress and the new challenges ahead — starting with the upcoming event in Astana in just 11 days.

“Celebrated it in style with a clapping

Delighted to extend my stay, lots of progress and more experiences to learn from as a very young team.

Onto Astana in 11 days.”

The extension of Ashley “ashhh” Battye’s contract highlights GamerLegion’s ambition to continue growing and competing for top positions on the global stage. Given their past achievements and ambitious goals for the future, the team has all the prerequisites to establish itself among Counter-Strike’s elite.

What Lies Ahead for GamerLegion

Considering Ashley “ashhh” Battye’s proven ability to build competitive rosters with limited resources, GamerLegion’s future looks promising. Despite numerous roster changes, the team continues to perform strongly at major tournaments — a testament to the solid system built by the coach.

If the current lineup is given time to develop and stabilize, GamerLegion has a real chance to return to Major playoffs and consistently break into the top 10 of the world rankings. Moreover, with Battye’s track record of nurturing young talent, the team is well-positioned to continue discovering new stars while maintaining a high level of competitiveness.
