While most experts predicted a smooth ride for FaZe, the third round of Stage 2 at the BLAST.tv Austin Major became the scene of one of the tournament’s most stunning upsets. Brazilian squad Legacy, long seen as an underdog in the global CS scene, shocked the world by dismantling the star-studded FaZe Clan roster with a clean 2–0 victory — including a win on FaZe’s own map pick — and advanced to Stage 3 with a flawless 3–0 record.
The Rise of Brazilian CS
Legacy has been knocking on the door of top-tier competition for a while, and this tournament was their loudest entrance yet. Their Stage 2 journey began with a confident win over mibr (13:10), followed by another convincing performance against 3DMAX (13:7). These two matches were an early sign that this team was in great form, but few were ready to consider them a serious threat. That all changed after this electrifying night in Austin.
Greatness Meets Hunger
On paper, FaZe looked unstoppable. The name s1mple alone commands respect, and with the support of the steady frozen, the experienced rain, the explosive EliGE, and the tactical mastermind karrigan, the team seemed primed for success. But flashy names don’t guarantee results — as the match would soon prove.
Led by the talented trio of dumau, Lucaozy, and rennie, Legacy didn’t just show up to play — they came to tear down the status quo. And that’s exactly what they did.
Map 1 – Mirage: Legacy’s Pick, Total Control
Mirage, a classic Brazilian battleground, was Legacy’s map choice, and they executed their game plan to perfection. Starting on the T-side, they instantly imposed a relentless pace that FaZe simply couldn’t handle. After 12 rounds, the score was 8:4 in favor of Legacy — a lead that visibly shook the tournament favorites.
In the second half, FaZe tried to rally in their own attack, but every effort was shut down by Legacy’s impenetrable defense. Round after round, dumau delivered impactful frags, the retakes were sharp, and the score soon read 13:7. FaZe had lost their first map of the tournament.
Dust2 – FaZe’s Pick, FaZe’s Collapse
Dust2 was supposed to be FaZe’s moment of redemption — a comfort pick with plenty of history. They looked more composed in the early rounds, but Legacy once again took control during the T-side. The Brazilians read FaZe’s positions perfectly, executed wide map control, and created pressure across all angles.
The halftime score stood at 7:5 for Legacy. The second half brought more resistance from FaZe, who managed to secure some critical rounds, but Legacy remained composed and clinical. In the most crucial moments, Lucaozy clutched, while rennie and snowzin neutralized FaZe’s efforts to regain mid-control. The final score — 13:11, and Legacy sealed the upset.

What Went Wrong for FaZe?
FaZe looked like a team without a plan B. On Mirage, they failed to adapt to Legacy’s constant aggression. On Dust2, their play seemed robotic and uninspired. karrigan couldn’t find effective adjustments; s1mple, while impactful at times, couldn’t carry the team; and although frozen tried to step up, it simply wasn’t enough.
Overall, FaZe did not play at the level expected of them. Their approach was reactive rather than proactive — and that’s a dangerous game to play against a team as motivated as Legacy.
Legacy didn’t just win — they made a statement. Going 3–0 in Stage 2 without dropping a single map is no accident. It’s the result of meticulous preparation, a deep understanding of their own strengths, and total dedication to the game.
FaZe, on the other hand, now find themselves in a precarious position. They’ll need to fight their way through elimination matches, and unless they adapt tactically and mentally, they risk an early exit from the Major.
