According to a report by Dust2.dk, several sources have confirmed interest in purchasing the legendary brand from Jonas Gundersen — former head of North and ex-Chief Operating Officer of NIP. Amid rumors of financial difficulties and the threat of bankruptcy, a sale could be Astralis’ only chance to reclaim its place among the world’s top teams.

Astralis’ Achievements

The past few years have been a true test for Astralis. Once leaders of the global CS scene, setting new standards between 2018 and 2020, the team now faces hard times. Of the legendary lineup, only dev1ce remains, while the other players have moved on. Tournament failures, including a disappointing showing at the last Major, have led to a deep internal crisis.

In 2024, Astralis participated in 13 Counter-Strike 2 tournaments, earning $313,500 in prize money. Their best results were 3rd–4th place finishes at the BLAST Premier: World Final 2024 ($85,000), CCT Season 1 Global Finals ($50,000), and ESL Pro League Season 19 ($45,000). However, the team performed significantly worse at other events — 25th–28th place at ESL Pro League Season 20, 9th–12th at IEM Cologne 2024, and 21st–24th at IEM Katowice 2024.

Ultimately, 2024 proved to be a year of instability for Astralis: a few strong showings were overshadowed by a series of disappointing performances, underlining the depth of the team’s issues.

What We Know So Far

According to Dust2.dk, Astralis may soon be sold. Several sources indicate that Jonas Gundersen — former head of North and ex-COO of NIP — is showing interest in acquiring the brand. After leaving NIP in 2024, Gundersen founded his own company, Continuum X Group, which invests in promising esports projects.

The deal could reportedly be valued between 13 and 20 million Danish kroner. For context, as noted by Bubzkji, Astralis went public in 2019 with a valuation of 508 million DKK — meaning their value has dropped by almost 97% over five to six years. However, it remains unclear whether the sale would also include the current player roster.

Can Astralis Get a Second Chance at Greatness With a New Owner?

If the sale does go through, Astralis could be given a new lease on life. A new owner could bring a different development strategy, a refreshed vision for the brand, and possibly a complete roster overhaul. This might include new investments, changes in management, a more flexible transfer policy, and a revamped team structure aimed at bringing Astralis back to the top of the esports scene.

However, one key question remains: can new leadership restore even a fraction of the greatness Astralis once had during their golden years?
