One of the oldest and most prestigious trophies in Counter-Strike is up for grabs this February as IEM Katowice 2025 reaches its Playoff phase. After two weeks of intense matches, six teams remain in the hunt for the title, the lion’s share of a massive $400,000 USD prize pool, and vital VRS points. With the famed Spodek Arena beckoning, only one squad can lift the coveted Katowice trophy in front of a roaring crowd of 20,000 fans.
Vitality Dominate Group A

Expectations were sky-high for Team Vitality in 2025, particularly after the offseason addition of Robin “ropz” Kool to complement superstar Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. The French side emphatically validated those hopes in Group A, dropping just one map on their way to locking in a bye straight to the semifinals.
Vitality opened their campaign by surviving a thriller against 3DMAX—closing out Inferno in overtime (19-16) before holding firm on Nuke (13-9). They next faced ropz’s former squad, FaZe Clan, with both sides trading heavy blows. A 13-3 demolition by Vitality on Nuke was followed by a FaZe response on Anubis, before Dust II went the distance into double overtime. Clutch plays and a 37-frag performance from ZywOo secured Vitality’s 2-1 victory.
With FaZe behind them, Vitality swept Virtus.pro (13-8 on Anubis, 13-5 on Inferno) to seal their spot among the final four. With both Dan “apEX” Madesclaire’s mid-round calls and ZywOo’s firepower, Vitality looked every bit a championship threat, living up to the preseason hype.
Virtus.pro’s New Chapter

After a tough 2024 season, Virtus.pro have shown promise under new in-game leader Denis “electroNic” Sharipov. VP secured their playoff ticket with a gritty 2-1 victory over Eternal Fire (9-13 Anubis, 13-10 Dust II, 16-13 Train), turning the series around after dropping the opening map. It is the first Big Event playoff appearance for newcomers Timur “FL4MUS” Marev and Kaisar “ICY” Faiznurov, who joined the team during the off-season. Virtus.pro will now face Team Spirit in the quarters, with the winner advancing to meet NAVI in a tantalizing semifinal showdown.
Eternal Fire Edge Out FaZe for Third Spot

Following a second-round loss to Virtus.pro, Eternal Fire went on a dramatic run to earn Group A’s last Playoff berth. They had to pull off a reverse sweep against 3DMAX (4-13 Inferno loss before prevailing 16-13 on Anubis and 13-10 on Dust II) just to stay alive. Meanwhile, FaZe staved off elimination by taking down G2 Esports—recently crowned BLAST World Final champions—in a thrilling three-map series.
That set up a showdown between FaZe and Eternal Fire for a place in Spodek. The Turks, propelled by Engin “MAJ3R” Kupeli and Özgür “woxic” Eker, fired on all cylinders to overwhelm FaZe 13-4 on Anubis. The real spectacle came on Nuke, however, as Can “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş erupted for 49 frags across triple overtime, carrying Eternal Fire to a 25-22 win. Despite heroic clutches from Helvijs “broky” Saukants, FaZe could not contain XANTARES and bowed out short of Spodek.
NAVI Return to Form in Group B

Group B’s top seed and direct semifinal berth went to Natus Vincere, who seem poised for a return to their former glory. Fresh off a relatively quiet 2024 by their standards, NAVI came into Katowice looking to make a statement—and they did exactly that.
A convincing 2-0 victory over FURIA Esports set the stage for a highly anticipated clash against Team Spirit, the Shanghai Major champions and NAVI’s nemesis from last season. While Danil “donk” Kryshkovets again put up monstrous numbers for Spirit, NAVI dug deep in a nail-biting three-map series (13-8 Mirage, 11-13 Dust II, and a 16-14 overtime clincher on Ancient) to finally topple their rivals. Justinas “jL” Lekavičius shined brightest in clutch situations, propelling NAVI into the upper bracket final.
With momentum on their side, NAVI breezed past The MongolZ (13-3 Mirage, 13-9 Ancient) to lock up their semifinal spot. Their strong map control and firepower looked reminiscent of their Major-winning form.
The MongolZ March On; Spirit Rally Late

Despite suffering a setback at NAVI’s hands, The MongolZ rebounded in the lower side of Group B to secure a place in the quarterfinals. After a slow start in Katowice due to a late-season roster shift, they overcame GamerLegion with clutch performances from Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren and the returning Munkhbold “Senzu” Azbayar, setting up a quarterfinal date against Eternal Fire.
Meanwhile, Spirit bounced back from their overtime heartbreak against NAVI in style, shaking off a Game 1 stumble against GamerLegion. Dimitry “sh1ro” Sokolov and donk were sensational in the final two maps, dominating Ancient (13-6) and Nuke (13-4) to clinch the last remaining spot in Spodek. They now prepare for a showdown with Virtus.pro, aiming for a potential rematch with NAVI—one that could be every bit as epic as their group stage classic.

The Playoff Bracket
With only six teams advancing from the 16-team Group Stage, fans at the Spodek Arena will be treated to a condensed yet star-studded bracket:
