Heroic have officially confirmed via their X (Twitter) account that head coach Eetu “sAw” Saha and AWP player SunPayus will leave the organization following the conclusion of BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. They are set to join G2 Esports.

This announcement aligns with earlier hints from G2’s CEO, who suggested the team would undergo changes not only in its roster but also in its leadership structure.

Crisis Moment for G2

Following the departure of NiKo and m0NESY to Falcons, G2 lost two of their most impactful players. This had a serious effect on the team’s performance and morale. At IEM Dallas 2025, G2 had to play with coach TaZ due to huNter- being unable to secure a visa in time, further compounding their issues.

Recent Results:

  • PGL Astana 2025 – 9–11th place
  • IEM Dallas 2025 – 7–8th place

The need for a reset was clear. SunPayus is expected to strengthen the AWP position after hades returned to Monte, having previously played for G2 on loan.

sAw and SunPayus: A New Course for G2

Despite SunPayus maintaining solid individual form, Heroic remained in a rebuilding phase. After the exits of cadiaN and stavn, the team lost its consistency and competitive edge. Under sAw’s leadership, Heroic made efforts to redefine themselves through structure and discipline, while relying on SunPayus as a key performer.

SunPayus’s stats – Last 3 Months:

  • Rating: 1.13
  • ADR: 73.6
  • KAST: 75.3%
  • Impact: 1.08

Even with a reworked roster, Heroic achieved respectable results:

  • Second place at Thunderpick World Championship 2024
  • Victory at CCT Season 2 Global Finals
  • Victory at MESA Nomadic Masters Spring 2025

These results showed potential, but it became evident the project wasn’t built for long-term success. The move to G2 represents a chance for both sAw and SunPayus to unlock their full potential in a more stable and ambitious organization.

Before joining Heroic, sAw made a name for himself at ENCE, where he led the team to:

  • Second place at IEM Dallas 2022
  • Second place at ESL Pro League Season 15
  • Semifinals at IEM Cologne 2023
  • Second place at Gamers8 2023
  • A long-standing position in the HLTV Top 10
  • A competitive international roster built from scratch

Their departure from Heroic marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new era for G2.

Team Reactions

NiP:

“rebuild #40195”

A familiar self-deprecating reference to their ongoing rebuilding process.

Metizport:

“cadiaN and stavn back in?”

A speculative take on the potential return of Heroic’s former core.

Aurora:

“at least +1 ‘no refunds’ post confirmed”

A sarcastic comment possibly hinting at risky roster decisions of their own.

New direction, high expectations

G2 have long needed more than just roster swaps — they needed a structured, strategic rebuild. The arrival of sAw isn’t a patch job. It’s a complete overhaul of how the team operates. Known for his discipline, analytical depth, and long-term vision, sAw brings a different leadership style.

SunPayus is a consistent and modern AWP player with top-tier experience. If he can quickly adapt to G2’s dynamic and sAw receives full backing from management, the team has a real chance to return to competing for trophies in the second half of 2025.

However, given the scale of changes, results may not come immediately. Much will depend on who else joins the roster and how well sAw can implement his vision within this new structure.
