The MongolZ clinched the first spot in the Perfect World Shanghai Major by defeating DRILLAS 2-1 in the upper bracket of the Asia RMR. Entering as one of the favorites, The MongolZ opened the competition with a solid victory over Alter Ego, setting the stage for their high-stakes clash with DRILLAS.
Backed by Mark “ohnePixel” Zimmermann, DRILLAS initially gave The MongolZ a scare by taking a 10-2 lead on Mirage. Despite their shaky start, The MongolZ mounted a remarkable comeback, with Tal “meztal” Hahiashvili securing a key triple kill on the B site, swinging the momentum back in favor of his team. Although DRILLAS managed to take the map, The MongolZ rebounded fiercely on the second and third maps, Ancient and Anubis, with Munkhbold “Senzu” Azbayar, Ayush “mzinho” Batbold, Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold and Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch delivering strong performances.
Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren led his team with skill and composure, solidifying The MongolZ’s reputation as one of Asia’s top teams. Their victory over DRILLAS secured their position at the Shanghai Major and reaffirmed their strength in the region.
Following The MongolZ’s triumph, Rare Atom defeated TALON in the Asia RMR upper bracket semi-finals, securing the second qualification spot for the Shanghai Major. Rare Atom’s victory was extremely noteworthy since it guaranteed a local Chinese team would compete in Shanghai.
Rare Atom’s qualification came through consecutive wins on Vertigo and Inferno, with each map ending in a confident 13-8 scoreline. Andrew “kaze” Khong showcased his clutch abilities on Vertigo, where he delivered a brilliant ace and a 1vs3 clutch, halting TALON’s comeback attempts. Junhao “ChildKing” Peng led the team on Inferno, contributing a strong T-side performance and solid defense that sealed the deal for Rare Atom.
Rare Atom’s triumph also reflects the growing strength of Chinese CS, as they bring their unique style and strategy to the international scene. With a calm and coordinated approach, Rare Atom proved they can compete under pressure and secure victories against tough regional opponents.
The success of The MongolZ and Rare Atom in the Asia RMR marks an important milestone for Asian Counter-Strike. Both teams are set to represent their region on a global stage, competing against top-tier teams in the Perfect World Shanghai Major. With the inclusion of two Asian squads, the Shanghai Major becomes a promising platform for the region to gain visibility and showcase its growth.
The MongolZ will look to maintain their dominant regional form, led by bLitz’s strategic insights, while Rare Atom will aim to build on their recent success and deliver strong performances.
