Trial by fire: Legacy’s path through the qualifier
The South America closed qualifier for ESL Pro League S22 featured eight ambitious teams, but only one ticket to the main stage was up for grabs. Despite entering as favorites thanks to their Major performance, Legacy had to endure a true gauntlet — and showed they hadn’t lost their firepower.
Early victories:
- 2:0 vs Dusty Roots (July 16) — a comfortable win that helped the squad get back into competitive rhythm after a break.
- 2:1 vs SELVA (July 17) — a more challenging series; Legacy took the opener, dropped the second map, but decisively closed out the decider.
Epic battle with Sharks:
- July 18, first meeting vs Sharks (2:0) — a dramatic map that required five overtimes, where Legacy showcased their composure and experience.
- However, the following day, July 19, they fell to Imperial (1:2), sending them down to the lower bracket. It was a pivotal moment — could the team mentally recover?
The answer was immediate. That same day, Legacy defeated Sharks once again (2:0), this time with less drama, earning their place in the grand final — and a rematch against Imperial.
Redemption against Imperial and a decisive victory
The July 20 match turned out to be a true thriller. Having already lost to Imperial earlier in the bracket, Legacy entered the final as underdogs. But this time, they weren’t there just to compete — they came to win.
The series kicked off with a brawl. Legacy lost Mirage but had already picked up a crucial win on Train. The deciding map — Nuke — had symbolic weight: it was the very battleground where they lost their previous match against Imperial. But this time, Legacy came prepared. With a tactical masterclass, they overpowered their opponents and clinched the series 2:1, securing their spot in ESL Pro League.
The qualifier heroes: dumau, latto, and a surprise step-up
Throughout the tournament, Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer and Bruno “latto” Rebelatto remained Legacy’s backbone — providing consistent firepower and leadership. However, in the grand final, it was Guilherme “saadzin” Pacheco who stole the spotlight.
Usually operating from the background, saadzin delivered one of the best performances of his career. His contribution in the win over Imperial was critical — particularly on Nuke, where he won clutch rounds, dominated duels, and kept the team alive during key moments.
Second major-tier event of the season
This qualifier marked Legacy’s first official appearance since their deep run at BLAST.tv Austin Major. With their ESL Pro League S22 spot now secured, the team proves they’re no one-hit wonder — they’re here to stay.
Legacy are also confirmed participants at BLAST Bounty Season 2, set for August. That means two tier-one appearances in just two months, giving the team significant chances to gain ranking points and solidify their status in the global scene.
