International organization G2 Esports is preparing for a major roster overhaul in CS2. According to HLTV, following the signings of a new AWPer and coach, the team is now targeting another addition — Slovak rifler Matúš “MATYS” Šimko, currently playing for fnatic.

G2 bets on youth: MATYS in line to replace Snax

According to HLTV and Croissant Strike, G2 are in active talks with fnatic to acquire MATYS. Initially, the team considered replacing Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski with ENCE’s Kacper “xKacpersky” Gabara, but those negotiations fell through. Now, the 21-year-old Slovak has emerged as the top candidate.

MATYS has shown consistent form during his time with fnatic, maintaining a 1.12 rating over more than a year. While the team didn’t attend many tier-one events, he helped secure titles at regional tournaments such as RES European Series #1, RES European Series #6, and Conquest of Prague 2025. Though not top-tier trophies, these results highlight the player’s potential.

G2 have already revamped key roles: Álvaro “SunPayus” García has joined as AWPer, and Eetu “sAw” Saha has taken over as coach. Leadership duties are also shifting, with Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač set to become the new in-game leader after Snax’s departure.

Big stage debut awaits

If the transfer goes through, MATYS will officially replace Snax and make his debut for G2 at IEM Cologne 2025 in late July. A real test lies ahead for the Slovak player — a chance to establish himself at the tier-one level and shine on the big stage.
